Wednesday morning, 5:12 am to be exact on April 18, 1906 a major earthquake hit the city of San Francisco. The epicenter was actually two miles offshore from the city and could be felt from Oregon to Los Angeles and inland as far as Nevada. The earthquake ruptured along the San Andreas Fault northward and southward 296 miles. There had been a decade of minor earthquakes before 1906 that were later determined to be a result of erosion.
