In August 1997, Health Plan Select (HPS) opened its doors as the area’s only local option in health insurance. The idea was to provide a health plan dedicated to improving the health and well being of the citizens of northeast Georgia. In the beginning, HPS offered a comprehensive network of physicians to businesses in Athens-Clarke and its five surrounding counties.
