At 1:00 AM EST, the Senate approved a procedural motion to move health reform legislation to final passage. The 60–40 vote, completely along party lines, was the first of three procedural votes that Democrats must cross before a vote on final passage (now scheduled for Christmas Eve). An amendment in the legislation strikes Section 3101 of the original bill, which provides for a .5 percent increase in Medicare reimbursements to physicians (costing $11.3 billion over 10 years).
