- This book is really weird, Greeley's lonely, so lonely it just reeks off the page; he writes about how he feels totally alone, left behind in the war. He interacts with the village dogs, but no one really talks to him. It's an intriguing book and in some small way, I feel as though I'm like him, maybe that's why I'm still reading. I'm on my own, like Greeley, I'm in a foreign place, like Greeley, we're both away from our home towns, family, friends. It's a connection across time.
