I received my B.A. degree in psychology from Western Reserve College of Case Western Reserve University in 1977 and my M.B.A. from that university's School of Management in 1978. Combining my interests in management and the social and behavioral sciences, I continued with doctoral studies in industrial and labor relations at Case Western and earned the Ph.D. in 1986. Grounded in social theory, my dissertation concerned the supply of trade union services, deunionization and public policy.
