Council Community Hospital/Nursing Home closed on March 15, 2002 leaving a freestanding rural health clinic. The nearest hospitals are located approximately one hour to the north and to the south of Council. The clinic struggled with providing services to the community with very little income in 2003. It was clear the clinic would not survive the next two to five years, leaving the community without adequate health care services.
