- African Encounters was born when Karen and Rodger had finished a 2 year contract in Tanzania. Rodger had been working and living up in Arusha and Karen was working and living in Zanzibar. Upon completion of their contract, they came back to South Africa with nothing really concrete job-wise. This is when they came up with the idea to start up a company specialising in tourism to Tanzania.
