Starting as the USNS New Bedford, this ship toured the Pacific during World War II and was later cast as co-star to Henry Fonda in the 1955 classic film Mr. Roberts. After enjoying civilian life as a commercial fishing boat, the Sea Bird was commissioned by the Sea Bird Adventure team in 2006 to return to the Pacific to help fight a new battle against the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
