AquaCoustic Remote Technologies specializes in inspections of underwater structures such as trunk or mainline sewers, hydro dams, reservoirs, ports and bridge abutments using a wide range of technologies to create accurate condition assessments. AquaCoustic principals have over 30 years experience in assessing underwater conditions. Our clients include many major civil engineering firms and municipalities throughout North America. Michael Blackshaw, in 1966, started out his professional career as a commercial diver. A few years later he went on to become a highly regarded ROV operator and in 1991 he purchased his first SONAR profiler.
Over the years Michael and Aquacoustic have produced condition assessments, as-built drawings, 3D imaging, cross-sections of restrictions & pipe shapes, pipe plots, operational & structural defect coded tables and freeze-frame observations for projects like ferry docks, hydro dams, outfalls, ports, bore holes, shafts and long internal pipe.
Condition assessment data is gathered using multiple sensors integrated on a float or tractor. Aquacoustic's inspection system has two sonar heads, digital CCTV, gas & temperature sensors and is expandable to accommodate any ethernet-based sensor relevant to the data collection of a project.
Aquacoustic researches, designs and manufactures all its own equipment. This allows for its technicians and designers to have full understanding of, and an immediate solution for, any problems that appear in the field, a great advantage with regards to efficiency and reduced downtime.
Michael Blackshaw sits on the Steering Committee of the Sewer Pipe Inspection & Management Association (SPIMA).
