President della Paolera is pleased to announce that The American University of Paris and New York University have entered into a cooperative agreement which will further develop AUP’s position as the pre-eminent American model institution of higher learning in Europe. The AUP/NYU cooperative will have an impact on both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will include significant advantages for academic exchange for both students and faculty between the two institutions.
Several interesting opportunities may be of particular interest to our students: Qualified AUP students will be entitled to spend up to one full academic year at an NYU global campus (Florence, Italy; London, England; Accra, Ghana; Shanghai, China; or Prague, Czech Republic) during their undergraduate program at AUP. Qualified AUP students will also be entitled to study for one spring semester at NYU’s Washington Square campus in New York City. All AUP students will have access to the NYU Library system, which is among the most extensive in the world. Finally, beginning in fall 2007, AUP students in the top 20% of their class at the end of two academic years at AUP will be entitled to transfer to NYU and, after successfully completing two academic years, to receive an NYU degree (with a reciprocal scheme for NYU students).
New campus project: As you know, the scale and scope of AUP’s present and anticipated growth have also required proactive thinking about our campus. AUP needs classrooms suited to the latest instructional technologies, new spaces for faculty and student interaction, and accommodation for student life, theatrical performances, laboratories, and cultural expositions. Over the past two years, we have commissioned extensive infrastructure analyses of our space needs, investigated five different possible strategies for a new move, and actively pursued one. We are currently studying the feasibility of moving to Paris’ Ile Seguin, a future site for leading institutions of education, culture and research, and will keep you abreast of developments on this important front as they unfold.
