- New York photographer Avi Gerver is a freelance photographer and designer specializing in event, sports, and commercial photography as well as web and graphic design. Born and raised in Brookline, MA, Avi Gerver began photographing at the age of 15. In 2000, he was offered the Paul Tsongas Scholarship, a merit-based full four-year scholarship to Massachusetts College of Art, but turned it down to attend Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Before beginning at NYU in 2001, he spent a year studying and photographing in Israel. In 2003, he was given the Seth Tobias award for his landscape photographs of Israel which illustrated the importance of the decisive moment in seemingly static environments. Early in 2003, Avi was hired as a still photographer for the feature film Super Size Me, taking candid photographs that would later be used in promotional materials. In the summer of 2003, he worked as an intern in the Madison Square Garden Photo Services Department, and since then has worked for the Garden as a freelance photographer and graphic designer. In January, 2005, Avi received his BFA with honors in Photography and Imaging from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He now lives in Manhattan and works as a freelance photographer and graphic/web designer. His clients include the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, MSG Network, YES Network, College Sports TV, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Entertainment, and Brooklyn Children's Museum. His photographs have been published in the New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe, Seattle Times, Pittsburgh Tribune, Marie Claire, Men's Health Magazine, NYKnicks.com, NYRangers.com, and others.
