- This site is edited by Dr Ernest Metzger, Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. The site first appeared on 6 January 1995 on the webserver of University College London. It has grown enormously since that time. Since the autumn of 1995 it has been made available by the Centre for the Study of the Civil Law Tradition at the University of Aberdeen. It is free to all users and is entirely not-for-profit. In general, the subject matter of the site is confined to Roman and ancient law, and the subsequent history of Roman law. The site does not include materials on modern private law.
