Whether a student's goal be to perform professionally, to acquire a college degree in dance, to teach ballet, to work in a dance related field, or simply to enjoy attaining a high level of proficiency in a beautiful but challenging art form, our program aims to provide them with a firm foundation in classical ballet technique upon which to build their dance future.
At Ballet Classique emphasis is not only on developing a student's knowledge of steps (ballet's vocabulary), but also on developing good classical form (aligning the center axis of the body correctly while in motion). Our students learn to "move from their center" which enhances the flow of movement instead of "holding themselves centered" which inhibits movement. This technique of moving from one's center is similar to the concept of breathing and stretching from one's center to create yoga postures.
A firm well-practiced knowledge of both these aspects of training (learning the vocabulary of ballet steps coupled with learning to move from one's center) provides the basis by which our students - with dedication to the hard work necessary - grow to become well trained dancers.
