Description
Joe Hartley started carving wood because he wanted a mantel full of cowboys, just like those of his mentor. From that idea, Bayou Creations was born. Hartley began making a name for himself as a carver in 1987, lining up Santa Clauses next to his cowboys and teaching classes. Hartley's specialty is caricatures. His favorite cowboy needs a shave, has legs that bow, and wears a big cowboy hat. Another has no teeth, and still another is taking a bath.
Hartley is a current member of the North Louisiana Woodcarvers Association and the National Woodcarvers Association. He served as President of the North Louisiana Woodcarvers Association for three consecutive years.
