BeachBeat Surfboards, Cornwall

Description

With 40 years of surfing and 26 years of shaping and a role in board manufacturing since the early 60's, Chops Lascelles is one of Europe's most renowned shapers.

"I had my first taste of surfing in late '59/early '60 at a little place called Hastings point. From there the family moved to Caloundra on the sunshine coast of Queensland where my older brother Dave founded the famous 60's label Cord surfboards with Bob Mctavish, George Greenough, Kevin Platt and a number of other Australian surfing pioneers. With great surfers such as Peter Drouyn, Russell Hughes and Nat young and many other notables involved these were great times.

For me that was where it all started and after many years of travelling and surfing the globe I eventually chose the traditional Cornish village of St. Agnes to settle in. Over the years, Laminations (our "factory" name) has evolved to become one of Europe's premier factories, producing high quality boards of all designs. Our philosophy is that there's a time to ride a longboard and have fun and there's a time to ride a shortboard and charge. My shaping influences are varied and come from such great shapers as Darrell Dell, Kingsley Kernovske, Nev Hymen and Alan Byrne to name a few of those I've worked with. All masters in their own field. We pride ourselves on providing people with boards that will genuinely work for them and help them to improve and perform to the best of their abilities in all situations, rather than this years "new" fad in shaping, (most of which are recycled "new" ideas from 15 to 20 years ago). To put it another way, boards that follow function, not fashion."
