Description
The Berkeley Bike Club (BBC) is an incorporated non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the sport of cycling by recruiting and training riders for racing, and bringing bicycle races to the attention of the public. Membership in the club is open to all interested persons. The club includes both riders and racers. The goal of the BBC is to give physical, mental and financial support to its members; to develop coaching and training programs; to promote team racing and tactics; and in general to ensure the success of the BBC Team and its members in races.
The BBC is a long established club, with strong roots in the community. Many of its members have been active in the Northern California racing scene for multiple decades. Our experience allows the BBC to safely promote its own activities and to provide help to its new members who are just starting to race. This experience is also helpful when working with special interest groups, such as bicycle coalitions, working on improving trails, road, and general access for bicyclists to major transportation corridors. Individuals interested in becoming more involved with bicycle coalitions in the East Bay, San Francisco or Marin County would find a tremendous support network within the club.
The BBC promotes three regular NCNCA/USCF Permitted races per year. These races include the Pinole Team Time Trial (February), Berkeley Hills Road Race (Mother's Day), and Albany Criterium (July). In the past (and perhaps the future) we've held a Twilight Racing Series in various locations (Two different locations in Alameda and one in Oakland). See Events.
