Description
The Boston Gay Basketball League (BGBL) was formed in 1993, by Kenneth "Buck" Bachman. Buck moved to Boston in 1993, after creating the gay league in Minneapolis years earlier. We started with six teams, playing a ten-game schedule, and have grown to become the biggest such league in the country.
One of the league's strengths is our draft system, wherein teams are chosen new each year, from the list of registered players. This allows for new friendships to form annually and provides relatively balanced competition. Our regular season begins with the annual Draft Party in October, where coaches select the teams to compete against each other. The first Draft Party was held on October 15, 1994, at Ramrod.
We play regular season games from late October through early February, followed by playoffs. The number of regular season games has varied from 12 or more, depending on how many teams we have in the league.
