Description
Black Ice Sunglasses was born in 1989 in the small seaside resort town of Merimbula in New South Wales, Australia (That's half way between Sydney and Melbourne). The Owner, Charles Dazey, had always had trouble with buying sunglasses for himself - they felt uncomfortable, looked ugly, or were too expensive for what he received. So using a network of overseas contacts, the Black Ice range was created.
Black Ice worked directly out of Merimbula for a few years, and in 1992 moved over to nearby Pambula into a larger warehouse. In 1997 a new warehouse was added onto the existing premises to the size that it is today (500+ square meters).
Black Ice markets its sunglasses through outlets all around Australia with extra representation in tourist resorts around the Australian coastline and the South Pacific. The Australian sun is merciless and the need for sunglasses in coastal and mountain ski resorts is critical. A combination of the hole in the Ozone layer above Australia in springtime, the sheer amount of sun, and the active outdoor lifestyle enjoyed by Australian's means that it has one of the highest rates of skin cancer and sun related eye disease in the world.
