- A native North Carolinian, I have lived in the High Country for over 20 years. I first moved to Boone to attend Appalachian State University, receiving a BA in Anthropology with a minor in Sustainable Development. Upon graduation from ASU, I moved to Chapel Hill, NC and became partner in Coyote Construction, building houses in the Triangle area for a little over four years. After my time in the construction business, I decided to move back to the mountains to pursue a Masters in Appalachian Studies (received in 1999). While working on my MA, I studied as an apprentice to master luthier Alfred Michels, building and repairing violins at Solitude Violin Shop in Ashe County. During this time I also decided to pursue a career in real estate, where I could blend my knowledge of the Appalachian region and the Boone area with my knowledge gained through my experience as a builder. Besides working full time as a real estate agent, I still spend my spare time building violins and teaching traditional Appalachian music classes at Appalachian State University.
