1. PRELUDE
'The brown lid of a card box is flipped. A crumpled confusion of professionally inked papers is sifted. Some are slung, and some are sorted. Ten bundles of ten are bound with twine and stacked neatly back into the box. Adhesive tape is drawn from cylindrical reels, slit into even strips using a blunt blade and, piece by piece, bound across the replaced lid. Draws are emptied. Floorboards are swept. Carpets re-tacked. An attic hatch is slid back. And, as one of the vital pamphleteers ascends a ladder, delivering the card cube into the humid mouth above, somewhere below the sound of frantic scribbling can be heard...'
2. INTRODUCTION
Within the first few years of this century an English independent Art & Literature group based in Brighton naturally formed into Borbonesa Publishing. After the successful completion their initial Occasional Paper Volume they spawned a number of digits and limbs, one of which transmogrified into an independent music label, entitled Hollow Haircut Records. They collectively adapted the distribution methods into a more concentrated form of literary pollination. They also instigated radical performance-related stunts and employed strategic viral marketing techniques to 'get' into a host of new international outlets. This involved temporarily splintering off to otherwise healthy landmasses, allocating the newly completed published works to a string of reputable Boutiques and Bookshops. The myth, it seemed, was spreading- from the southern regions of the British coast, to the excitable expanse of the Americas...
3. PACKAGE
These Borbonesian published works have always been significantly tricky, with devoted attention often required of 'new' readers. The bits and pieces temporarily preserved in the cardboard pop coffin of the Turtle Soup Box Set, for example, are prone to spill out onto the floor if hastily exhumed. And it is the modern condition of accelerated living (rife among many anxious consumers), that is the cause of careless crumpling of quality printed parchment. A systematic sifting through, and subsequent juggling with, the various-sized papers and artefacts in Turtle Soup may fluster even the most able of readers. Only after careful identification of what the contents are and how they should be considered, can a reading-order be decided upon, and it may be this important factor that brings one closer to unravelling the Polite Intervention offered by this, and other Printed Works.
