The Conservation Unit is part of the Botanical Society of South Africa, a non-government non-profit organisation. Established in 1913, it is the only non-profit organisation whose core focus is the conservation, promotion and wise use of South Africa's rich floral heritage.
To contribute to biodiversity conservation in South Africa, with a specific focus on the Cape Floristic Region and the Succulent Karoo, through strategic interventions, partnerships, and engaging other economic sectors in conservation programmes.
This is nested within the Botanical Society's mission, "…to win the hearts and minds and material support of individuals and organisations, wherever they may be, for the conservation, cultivation, study and wise use of the indigenous flora of southern Africa for the benefit of all."
