Agricultural Buildings, Stables, Mobile Field Shelters, Riding Arenas and Industrial Units

Description

Browns of Wem began life as Browns of Whixall with the late Mr H C Brown and his wife, Dorothy, when they started trading from their small holding at Four Lane Ends, Whixall just after the second world war. He bought and dismantled air raid shelters from the big cities, brought them back to Whixall and converted them into small farm buildings for reselling at local markets.

The business grew greatly in the late 1950’s and 1960’s supplying timber poultry sheds. There were over 200 employees and a fleet of 15 lorries making us the biggest in the United Kingdom.

In the mid 1960’s the small steel shop was built and steel framed buildings started to roll off the production line. In those days all the materials and sheeting came through the yard and the major problem that suppliers had was trying to find us. It was because of this that the name was changed to Browns of Wem Limited.
