Description

Our Background

The Tompkins Institute for Human Values and Technology at the Cape Breton University has been engaged in a thematic research programme focused on community business for many years. In a technology driven society, the interest has been to find new formulas that conciliate business techniques with human values.

The former Tompkins Director, Greg MacLeod, is the founding chairperson of New Dawn Enterprises and the BCA Financial Group. At the present time the Institute in partnership with New Dawn Enterprises Ltd. is conducting a second major research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Tompkins Development Limited is a not-for-profit corporation established by MacLeod as the action arm to implement the results of action-oriented research. Tompkins Development was the organizing agent to initiate the Wentworth Condominium project. It is associated with the BCA community finance group. MacLeod is the president of this social enterprise. Marissa Fong, a student in the MBA (CED) programme at CBU, is responsible for management functions.
