Celtic Cat Publishing is a small independent publisher founded in 1995 when the owner decided to self-publish Exile: Poems of an Irish Immigrant .
Following the successful launch of Exile in 1997, Celtic Cat Publishing and the Knoxville Writers' Guild, in November 2000, co-published Breathing the Same Air , an anthology of poems, fiction, drama, essays and photo-essays by 83 East Tennessee authors and visual artists.
In 2002, Celtic Cat published its first hard-back book Ebbing & Flowing Springs by Jeff Daniel Marion. This landmark collection draws from the author's work over the period 1976-2001. In May 2003, Ebbing & Flowing Springs garnered two important publishing awards: winner of the 2003 Independent Publisher Book Award for Poetry; and a finalist in the 2003 Benjamin Franklin Awards for Poetry/Literary Criticism. On July 12, 2003, the Appalachian Writers Association (AWA) named Ebbing & Flowing Springs the 2003 AWA Book of the Year.
