CG Computers has come a long way from the 2 person, one desk, half an office space company at the founder's parents office. CG Computers has grown to become a company of more 30 staff with headquarters at Hardwicke House and retail outlets in Gurney Plaza, Prangin Mall and Queensbay. Products from CG are now a common sight in Malaysia.
11 years ago, Li was almost alone as a Mac user. Getting support for Mac was a more difficult task than solving the problem by yourself. The company he worked with had an IT department that refused to support Mac. He was inspired by Guy Kawasaki's 'Selling Your Dreams', and started to think about the win-win situation for Mac users and himself from '7 Habits of Highly Effective People’. Besides that, John Sculley’s ‘Odyssey’ also deeply captured his attention on how Apple ran its business. He resigned and went on a 2 month trip to Argentina, Brazil and South Africa with his wife, Peggy. After being robbed twice, they came back home more determined than ever to start up CG Computers.
The only market for Macs at the time were the desktop publishing companies (DTPs) who required Macs to run their businesses. CG Computers honed in on this market. When Windows 95 was launched, CG Computers was not affected because DTPs needed them, and needed Mac. CG Computers flourished with the attention.
