The town of Chamonix Mont-Blanc is 1042m(3396 ft) above sea level at the foot of Mt-Blanc, the highest peak in western Europe at 4807m (15,770 ft). It is very close to where the French, Swiss & Italian borders meet and their influences mean you can get a really good fondue followed by an Italian coffee.
With the highest lift at 3843m global warming has a long way to go before it gets a grip on this resort. There is generally skiing from December right into May.
