- The CHAS Registration Assessment Scheme is a government run (not for profit) Health and Safety Competence Assessment scheme run and administered by the London Borough of Merton. Registration with CHAS or the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme has been developed and refined over a number of years by local government health and safety and procurement professionals, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive. Although the CHAS Registration and Assessment scheme has been developed by government bodies, the CHAS Registration and Assessment scheme is available for use by any public or private sector organisation as an aid when short listing or selecting applications from contractors, suppliers and consultants to work for them. By completing the CHAS Application Form and Registering with the CHAS assessment scheme, it provides assurances about the health and safety systems and competence of the organisations who have been assessed or accredited by the CHAS registration and assessment scheme.
