What we do
Substance-free. Clean. Sober. Call it what you will, but detoxification allows the patient to become either one, or indeed all of these things. During this process they will be visited daily and given a special contact number to access personally their medical supervisor. Within 7 to 14 days of following the programme they will be substance free and usually able to resume a normal lifestyle. We assess everyone individually so that the treatment will be tailored to his or her needs. In this way, everyone's treatment programme is a little different. However, there are some general principles that we follow. Firstly, our approach with the patient is this: we work with you to achieve the result you want. This is usually a substance-free state and to this end we do not use methadone as this is a medication with its own set of problems. We use a special combination of prescribed medication (usually Britlofex™) together with pain and stress relieving techniques to minimise any withdrawal symptoms. The patient is monitored on a daily basis and therapy may change on a daily basis. Family and friends living with the patient are encouraged to play their part and will benefit from the experience of helping with the detoxification. This help and support is only encouraged at a level suited to and acceptable to the family or friends and is worked out in conjunction with our personnel. The patient is helped, where applicable, to adjust to their substance-free status and to address the issue of relapse prevention. All community work is within a 20-mile radius of our offices; otherwise mileage charge is applicable with reasonable distances.
