1985 National Trust John Herbert Award for excellence in Queensland Heritage Conservation 1999, 2000 & 2001 Brisbane Tourism Award for Heritage & Cultural Tourism and induction into Hall of Fame Customs houses were built in all major Australian ports in the nineteenth century. Customs and excise duties were an important source of revenue, levied on goods from overseas and in some cases from other colonies. Public areas of Customs House are limited but are open to the public.
