Description
Born and raised in Soweto and Venda by nationality, Dan started his music career by playing for the Mangani Band. He then left school to join Steve Kekana and The Soul Brothers as bass guitarist. Through perseverance and working hard he formed a group called Flying Sound which was joined by Patricia Majalisa and Joseph Tshimange. They later changed their name to Splash after supporting Stimela on stage. He worked with various companies like Gallo Records, Bula Music, etc. until such a time when he had all the necessary knowledge and equipment to open his own company named Dalom Music.
Hamilton Nzimande was their first producer releasing their first LP in 1984. In 1986 Peacock was released and it went double platinum in just three weeks placing Splash firmly on the musical map. In 1987 Snake was released going Gold immediately, a new dance was invented through this album called Malombo Jive. In 1988 an album titled Money was released which exceeded the platinum status. In 1989 Tshokotshoko was released. In 1990 Dan and Patricia formed part of a worldwide project when they joined forces with fellow musicians around the world to participate in a week long run of the Global Environment Forum held in Moscow, Russia. An album titled Eye for an Eye was released and sold for over double platinum. In 1991 the sixth album for Splash was released titled Nesidande that went out to sell double platinum. 1992 was a different year as it was the first time for them to release an album on CD titled Khoma Khoma and he got to work with different artists from overseas including Michael Jackson, Toni Childs, Sinead O'Conner, as well as many other world music artists. In 1993 1 Comma 5 was released and was the eighth album for Splash.
In 1995 Ndosala was released and was yet another smash hit for the unstoppable group. This album put the final stamp of authority that Dan Tshanda was the "King of Tsonga pop". 1997 double face was released to massive acclaim once again. He has won the following awards: Best Producer in 1990 at Gallo Records and in 1991 won a Merit Award at CNA GALLO LIMITED.
