MITCH STEIN is one of the West Coast's most in-demand keyboardists. He has performed and/or recorded with such jazz, blues, rock and funk greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Paul McCandless, Frank Morgan, Jaco Pastorius, Peter Cetera, Charles Neville, Karl Denson, Zero, Branford Marsalis, John Lee Hooker, The Greyboy Allstars, Little Jimmy Scott, Les Claypool, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, Harvey Mandel, Papa John Creach, and many others.
I saw my first Grateful Dead concert on January 31, 1978 at the Uptown Theater in Chicago. A quarter century and nearly 400 live shows later, the Dead's music still stirs my soul and spirit. I was therefore both honored and excited to be asked to be the exclusive composer for DeadRingers. I approached the job of composing Grateful Dead ringtones with the understanding that I was doing so for the benefit of a very select and discerning audience. I therefore have tried to compose and mix each DeadRinger in such a way as to convey the essence of each tune in 45 seconds (the maximum ringtone length), and to make sure that the end user would be happy with the result.
