Lately I have been talking to a lot of people about job opportunities in the programming field and it seems like jobs programming Win32/desktop apps are a dying breed. Desktop programming has always been of more interest to me than web applications. The web browser and web technologies have not developed enough to get rid of that clunky feel. I have a big issue with page reloads, they drive me absolutely crazy. I would love to find a job strictly doing desktop applications development but it just seems nearly impossible. I would say 9 out of 10 jobs I see are for web developers and the few desktop applications jobs I see all have requirements of 5-10 years experience. So what is going on out there? Has innovation in the area of desktop development completely disappeared?
