About Deoband.org

Deoband.org is an Islamic portal which focuses primarily on translations from the works of the scholars of the Ahl al-Sunnah wa 'l-Jama'ah (Sunni Islam). It covers a variety of topics such as Qur'anic exegesis, Hadith and its rulings, Islamic jurisprudence (Hanafi school), creed (fundamental Islamic beliefs or 'Aqidah), Islamic history, biographies of Islamic scholars, refutations of deviant beliefs, and discussions on the principles of fiqh (Usul al-Fiqh), hadith (Usul al-Hadith) and tafsir (Usul al-Tafsir) among other things.

The website is named after a town in Northern India where the prestigious religious seminary, Dar al-'Ulum Deoband, is located. The Deobandi maslak (methodology) which originated at this institution (also called the Al-Azhar of India after the prestigious seat of Islamic learning by the same name based in Cairo, Egypt) is rooted in the Mujaddidi and Dahlawi traditions of Mujaddid Alf-Thani Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi al-Faruqi and Imam Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dahlawi respectively.
