- Martin Varsavsky has just announced the end of the subsidies for the La Fonera wireless access point. It is going up from €5 to €29 or $29.95 in the USA. This is still not a lot of money, but if you order this week you will get your access point for €5. The La Fonera access point gives you a secure wireless network for your own computers, and an unencrypted wireless network for anyone else close by who wants to authenticate and use a bit of your broadband. By having the La Fonera router and permitting other people to use it you are allowed to roam around the world and connect to other Fon hotspots for free, alternatively you can choose to collect a little bit of money (about 1€ after taxes etc) every time someone outside the network buys a day pass from your router.
