East Bay Bicycle Coalition

Description

Founded in 1972, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization dedicated to promoting bicycling as an everyday means of transportation and recreation.

The EBBC safeguards the interest of bicyclists in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. The EBBC works with cities, counties, Caltrans, and other government agencies to improve conditions for cyclists. Membership benefits include the newsletter rideOn, monthly meeting programs, and the opportunity to participate in "hands-on" efforts to improve cycling conditions.

As a volunteer, grassroots, bicycle advocacy organization, the EBBC works to heighten awareness of bicycling needs with elected officials, government staff, and the public. The EBBC offers free valet bicycle parking at large public events. These events and employer transportation fairs give us the opportunity to educate both bicyclists and motorists with our bicycle safety quiz (also available online and in Chinese and Spanish). We also support bicycle diversion training programs (AKA Bicycle traffic school) in the East Bay. Our two published maps depict suggested on-street and off-road bike routes for commuters and recreational use along with route gradient and bicycle-friendly transit. Members are kept informed of advocacy issues with eleven issues of rideOn each year.
