Description

The E mmert Family Tradition

The Emmert Family of rural Jamestown, Ind. has long been in the farming tradition. They have been farming in the same area since the first Emmert set foot on Boone County soil nearly 175 years ago.

The most recent generations of the family have been raising purebred Hampshire hogs since 1941 when Austin Emmert bought some Hampshire pigs for his son, Bill's 4-H Swine Project. Thus, the Emmert swine tradition began.

Both John and Bill Jr., the sons of Bill and his wife, Phyllis, showed Hampshires in 4-H. Later, after receiving a degree in Animal Science from Purdue University, John expanded the hog operation adding Durocs and Crossbreds. John with his knowledge of production, nutrition, and genetics, developed the herd into a highly competitive breeding stock supplier selling their hogs into 20 states and six foreign countries, winning numerous awards at a local, state, and national levels.
