Description
Gord began working at Maple Leaf Gardens in the press box on game nights in 1975 while still in high school. He joined the Leaf front office on a part time basis in 1977 and on a full time basis in 1980. This culminated in April, 1988 -- being named the Leafs' General Manager at the age of 30, the youngest GM in NHL history. Sixteen months later, he was one of the youngest ex-General Manager's when he left the Leafs to join the New York Rangers as their Assistant General Manager.
A Kingston native and a football fanatic. Hoagie brings over 20 years experience to the Bullpen with a background in news, including a stint in Ottawa which included covering the national political scene. The former voice of the Argos has provided the radio play-by-play of the last 10 Vanier Cup games and has also called hockey, boxing and hoops on radio and television. A member of the CIS Football Top-10 Committee, Mike is also heavily involved as a writer/editor of the “Sports Forecaster” magazine.
Before moving to Toronto, I was the Sports Director at WJR Radio in Detroit. I anchored a pre- and post-game show for both the Detroit Red Wings and the University of Michigan Wolverines football team. But all that work still couldn't keep me from calling basketball for the Wolverines as well.
