- In the late 1970's, Mr. Ibrahim Yousef Kurdi contemplated the idea of investing in a Saudi industry, in which the main components would be indigenous raw materials. The experience and knowledge he had in the Saudi wheat industry prompted him to invest in the food sector with wheat as the main raw material. The idea was to start a wheat-based, frozen food manufacturing process, an industry in its infancy in the region, yet has unlimited future potential. Mr. Kurdi discussed his idea with his life-long friend, Mr. Abdullah Abdul-Karim Al-Lohaidan, whose positive reaction and encouragement gave a tremendous source of inspiration to Mr. Kurdi to pursue his plans. The two friends conveyed the idea to leading businessman, Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Nowaiser, who was well known to them, and requested him to join as a third partner. After careful evaluation of the proposal, Mr. Al-Nowaiser consented to join in this bold venture. By June of 1980, Food & Fine Pastries Manufacturing Co. Ltd. was formed, and the three partners would eventually become the proud owners of leading company in less than 15 years. On June 5th, 1983, the plant went into production under the Sunbulah brand name. The Sunbulah in Arabic language means a single spike of wheat, and symbolizes prosperity and blessing. In fact, Sunbulah has been blessed, and the dream of the three partners has come true. Through the company's distribution channels, the Sunbulah brand became available in almost every supermarket in Saudi Arabia in almost no time. By 1985, Sunbulah opened its first export market. Currently, Sunbulah is found in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. In recognition to the ever-changing market, Sunbulah diversified its production lines by acquiring a plant for bee honey bottling in 1988 marketed under the brand name Al Shifa, and produced a variety of flavors like Acacia, Lime, Orange, and our famous Multi-flora and Golden Nectar honey. Moreover, a dry ice plant was also purchased in 1988, which handles the demand for dry ice in the GCC countries. We currently cater to many airlines and hospitals in the region. Through our diversification programs, Sunbulah currently produces a variety of products:
