Nelson New Zealand, April 2003, a group of individuals came together to discuss the idea that there was a big place for a short film competition that focused on the “idea.”
The stated objectives of the trust are to: To promote and encourage the development of education, skill and creativity in the areas of filmmaking. To run an international annual short film competition as a means of the promotion and skill development in the film industry. To develop a management structure for the operation of film development in Nelson. To do all such other things as are necessary and desirable in relation to the development, management and operation of this development. To establish, fund and develop the making of and production of film by providing the base for the development of skills and expertise within the film industry.
