Title

Food Bank For New York City

Description

The Food Bank For New York City, a member of America's Second Harvest, The Nation's Food Bank Network, and the only food bank in the city, was founded in 1983 to coordinate the procurement and distribution of food donations from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and government agencies to organizations providing free food to the city's hungry.

In September 2004, America's Second Harvest, The Nation's Food Bank Network, awarded the Food Bank 2004 Hunger's Hope Awards in three categories for Excellence in Food Banking: Affiliate of the Year, Innovative Programs and Food Sourcing award.

We have distributed over 676 million pounds of food to date to more than 1,200 nonprofit community food programs - including soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, low-income day care centers, Kids Cafes, and senior, youth and rehabilitation centers - throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
