In 1999 VENOMATOR invited several friends to get together with their PC's and linked them together to play Half-Life Death Match. We all enjoyed the get together so much that we made it a monthly event. We would get together for 12 to 14 hours of pizza and HL, eventually naming it a "Killparty".
Soon... we opened up the Killparty LAN to the internet which made the game play even more exciting and less predictable. With this, we became even more competitive than before. More and more people came to the LAN parties and soon we had a whole bunch of great gamers in the group.
Our wives and girlfriends would schedule shopping trips or other outings on our LAN party nights and they would find us all bug eyed at the end of each party. IT WAS GREAT!
