Description

Our History

Geebo strives to be more than just another “regional electronic classified”. Geebo is a community; it’s people; it’s neighbors helping neighbors. It began as an upstart Web site based in Sacramento, California where people could buy and sell used items and post job announcements. However, it had the unique goal of wanting to provide a sense of community to those who visited. It’s people sharing their experiences and knowledge, asking questions, getting answers, being connected. Geebo’s philosophy is that the advent of the global electronic community shouldn’t mean the abandonment of the conventional community. It should serve as an enhancement.

Geebo, pronounced G-Bo, is unique in the dot.com world because it isn’t constrained by venture capital funding. This business is modeled after traditional brick-and-mortar businesses, rather than the get-in, get-out quick Internet model. “We’re in for the long haul, and our strategy has always been, one community at a time--expanding as it makes sense. That ideal still stands!” says founder Greg Collier.

When Geebo first went live in January of 2000, it was obvious the site had tapped-in to a need because of the immediate and positive response. Over the next few years Geebo expanded to include San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, Washington, DC, and Seattle. Today, Geebo is in 85 communities nationwide, with plans of expnading internationally in 2008.
