Title

Worship with George Markey

Description

George Markey grew up in a very musically oriented family. His father, George Page, was an accomplished pianist and tenor vocalist, and his mother was a operatic soprano singer. His father studied under the tutelage of Dr. George Boone Markey, professor at Westminster Choir College, and the Guillmont School of Organ. His mother was a vocal student of Jane Page Markey, Master of Voice and Operatic Soprano. Jane Markey was offered a position in the Italian opera, but turned it down in order to have a family. His parents’ first meeting was through the art of music.

George could not help but follow the footsteps of his lineage. His first solo vocal performance was at the age of 5. Not soon after, George was already on the wish list for many weddings and church functions. Having developed operatic soprano abilities, he was already singing professionally by age 10. Under the instruction of his mother, George learned techniques to vocalize in a variety of styles. Opera, Jazz and Broadway, are some of the styles in which he sings. Through the encouragement of his grandfather, Dr. George Boone Markey, George developed another mastery, the piano.

Since then, George has a long track record of successfully instructing students of voice, piano, guitar, drums, trumpet, bass guitar, and saxophone. Students of George Markey have achieved success in various vocal competitions, including receiving the New Jersey Excellence in The Arts Award, also known as The New Jersey Governor’s Award in voice. George Markey’s Students have also competed in Monmouth County Teen Arts. The results give proof of the effectiveness George Markey’s tutelage. In 2004, one nine year piano student achieved adjudication at State Teen Arts in Monmouth County, with his performance of Chopin’s Nocturne in Eb major. This was a contest where Monmouth county school districts sent their students to compete, and 2 players were chosen out of 55. In 2005, another student placed third, with his performance of Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in C sharp minor.
