I first got into making teddy bears when a friend, Simon, and I decided to start selling some kits on my Winnie the Pooh site. Before this I had never heard of making teddy bears and was very interested!! Simon introduced me to a family friend who happened to be Ruth of Dear Bears. Well, I took one step into her place and fell in love with all the bears and mohair. I made my first bear, which was horrible! He had a huge nose and I nicknamed him elephant bear. But I loved every minute of it and haven't stopped since.
My bear making has really evolved since my first bear. In the beginning I used a sewing machine and I soon found out that I hated this machine! I was 'rushing' my bears and didn't feel 'connected' to them. So, I started hand sewing. At this time I was making bears from 6" to 13" and thought I would try making a miniature. My first miniature was 3 1/2" and I haven't made a bear over 4" since! I always said in the beginning that I would never make a miniature, well was I ever wrong! Now my bears now range from 2" to 4".
Though I do open editions, no 2 bears are exactly alike and all have their own unique personality. I make my bears with only the finniest materials and with a lot of love!
