Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera has received a high-level reception, unusual for a Foreign Minister, according to International Development Minister Erik Solheim, who said Wednesday that Norway has to maintain close relationship with the parties to the conflict if it was to achieve progress peace process. Mangala Samaraweera, once an opponent of Norwegian facilitation in Sri Lanka, was received by His Majesty King Harald V while Norwegian Tamil activists protested outside the Royal Palace in Oslo.
Indonesian fishing trawler "WEILAI-LANKA" anchored in the fisheries harbour in Modera in Colombo caught fire Wednesday afternoon around 3.15 p.m. Sixteen Indonesian crew were in the vessel at that time, and all members of the crew were rescued unhurt, naval sources said.
Sri Lanka armed forces and Sri Lanka Police Wednesday conducted five-hour cordon and search operation covering Emil Nagar, Sinnakadai Bazaar, Hospital Road, Eluthoor Road, Thalvupadu Road and One Hundred Houses' Scheme in Periyakamam in the Mannar town, civil society sources in Mannar said. Residents were not allowed to move out of their houses between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. during the search operation, sources added.
