Something had to be done thirty years ago when informed that my son had psoriasis and both my children were diagnosed with asthma. There had to be a natural alternative to chemical creams and medication prescribed. Upon a suggestion from a friend to look into the advantages of goat milk, I adopted a few goats which did not come with an instruction book on how to care for them; what a grandiose experience. Commercial artist, crafter and animal-loving, I completed a course on how to manage a goat farm, the few goats multiplied and as I could not bear to have them slaughtered, started making cheese and soap using recipes found on a trip to the old Countries. Goat milk skin care may sound icky but it works – it is renowned for leaving the skin rejuvenated.
After some false starts, a good handmade product was developed and family and friends have been enjoying it for years. Dreaming of one thing, “a better world for my children and grandchildren”, moving to Caledonia in 1998 and suggestion from friends to start my own enterprise, Grand River Soap Works was on its way in association with friends in Quebec, France and Louis from Caprine, who do believe, as I do, in an all natural quality product, love making soaps and take pride in their products.
