Let's say you buy two candy bars for 50 cents each, and use your debit card. Now let's say we only make 10 cents profit on every candy bar. Ordinarily, we would have made 20 cents on that transaction, but because it costs us 50 cents, we just LOST 30 CENTS on that purchase! Woops.
