Bear Locomotive Co. acquired hobbytown of Boston on April 1st, 2001. We will continue production of the HO diecast locomotive kits under the hobbytown of Boston trade name - as they have been for over fifty years - and that will not change! Bear Locomotive Co. has been a producer and supplier of non-ferrous, low-temperature metalcasting alloys to modeling hobbyists and industrial users for nearly twenty-five years. Our heavy-as-lead "Bearmetal-158", a low-temperature melting-point alloy that melts at 158F is a popular product with model railroaders as "pour-in weight" for locomotives and rolling stock. Our association with hobbytown has also spanned the last quarter-century, not only as a dealer but, proudly, as one of the rare "factory authorized" service representatives and parts suppliers for the original Boston company. The original owner and founder was a personal friend. For the present, we will resume production of the "core" product line and will be concentrating on quality control of all the component parts and assemblies that go into each kit. Some improvements will be incorporated in the near future aimed toward quieter, smoother operation and increased traction. Modifications will be designed to retrofit current kits. We look forward to providing the model railroader with quality products and service for many years to come! Sincerely, Howard Mosley, Bear Locomotive Co., Inc.
