Humanitarian Volunteers is managed and operated by past and present professional volunteer development workers. They have worked in the harshest conditions in post genocide Rwanda and during the famine in Somalia. Others are presently leaders in the field in the Rescue and Care of Streetchildren. A genuine concern evolved over the years that there were very few opportunities for Short Term Volunteers, perhaps inexperienced in development work, to contribute their skills and enthusiasm.
