iHwy.com - Web Development and Windows 2003 Web Hosting

Description

Our company roots go back to 1995 when our founder, Mark Brown, began developing an online store (e-commerce wasn’t a buzz word yet) called GearShop.com. The site was an online source for rescue and safety equipment. You see, back then Mark was a firefighter and since fighting fires and software development have a lot in common, it made perfect sense to do this. Actually, Mark was a volunteer firefighter on the side and he happened to develop software, on the side, too. Now, let’s get back to the story.

We developed GearShop.com on a machine loaded with Windows NT4 and an early version of Microsoft’s Active Server Pages. We convinced ourselves that getting a fulltime internet connection was important so that we could keep the web server in house.

Our 56k frame relay circuit offered plenty of bandwidth for the site. After all, hardly anyone had those new polished 56k modems and the ones that did barely stayed connected to the internet. We soon learned that we could purchase a communication server and throw a couple of modems on it to provide our employees with dial-up access.
